It’s not often that you meet people that instantly make you feel at ease. Well Julia Franks is one of those people. She is a kind, curious and empathetic listener who is passionate about helping people be it through counselling or conscious dancing.
Julia is a professional psychotherapist who has created her own form of therapeutic conscious dance called Flomotion. Born from her own love and appreciation of how music and dance can be a powerful wellbeing elixir.
In this episode Andrew Cuerden and Julia explore how dance shapes and forms us as people. As well as what exactly does happen when we get together and dance with others. We also explore what “Conscious Dance” is and how it can help people find more awareness, agency and permission to move through beliefs and emotions without the need of alcohol or drugs.
“Being on the dance floor allows us to notice all our patterns and stories that we tell ourselves.”
We also touch on why many men in the west find it challenging to dance.
Julia gives us a taste of what one would expect from a Flomotion session,
“A cross between a disco and yoga class “
as well as taste of her recent book “Dance of Life” (available on Amazon) which is a treasure trove of resource and inspiration for those wanting to explore therapeutic dance whether as a facilitator or participant.
